The
aim of this Charity is to improve the quality for South Asian families
who have children and young adults with disabilities living in the London
Borough of Waltham Forest.
The Charity was originally set up by Carers to campaign for more appropriate
and responsive services for South Asian children with disabilities in
the Borough. We still aim to influence statutory service providers to
improve their services to ethnic minority children, but we have also built
the capacity within our own organisation to provide four unique and innovative
support projects:
What can children expect from us ?
A family atmosphere with staff members who are friendly, approachable,
energetic and fun! We are child-centred and look at the individual needs
of each child. We ask children what they want to do with their time and
aim to accommodate their suggestions.
What can parents expect from us?
We are managed by Carers and employ staff who have an understanding of
disability-related issues. Those in charge have similar circumstances
to those receiving services and are sensitive to what struggling families
may be going through. We develop all our services as a direct response
to what Carers tell us they need.
What our clients say:
“It’s fun” 12-year old boy with hearing difficulties.
“I’ve been to my club – it’s mine – my friends
go there.” 9-year-old autistic boy.
“I get to go my mum or sister’s house without feeling guilty
that I’m leaving him behind because I know he is having a good time
with his friends” Parent
“I like the fact that when I go into the office, everyone knows
my name and who I am, it makes me feel at home ” Parent
