Who are we

The Waltham Forest Asian Mothers Group is a registered charity which began life in 1984. The charity was originally set up by a group of South Asian mothers of children with disabilities, who all wanted to campaign for more appropriate and responsive services for their children within the Borough. While we still aim to influence statutory service providers to improve their services to ethnic minority children, we have also built the capacity within the organisation to deliver our own unique and innovative support projects.

We retain our core focus by continuing to have a Management Committee consisting entirely of mothers with children or young adults with disabilities. We remain a grassroots organisation that is local and accessible, for families who may be struggling to find out which services are available to them, due to a variety of social barriers including language, culture or fear.
